Our Impact
Using technology to shape a safer, more connected and inclusive world.

We are a public Benefit Company
Nominet operates .UK for wider good and focuses on driving positive change through technology. We believe in a safe, free and open internet.
With the UK’s national domain name registry at our core, we work with our members to bring the benefits of the internet to the millions who depend on our services.
Our experience in the Domain Name System (DNS) enables us to support critical internet infrastructure that public services rely on. Our management of the .gov.uk registry means we maintain the security and reliability of digital platforms vital to the operation of UK government. We also provide DNS services for the NHS, allowing healthcare professionals and the public to connect to online services.
We believe in an internet that benefits everybody. This commitment has driven us to fund projects that protect UK citizens from online criminal abuse, as well as nationwide initiatives to address the online skills gap and drive digital inclusion.
To allow the internet to thrive, we contribute to the wider internet community at a governance, policy and technical level.
-
shaping the future internet
We care about the future of the internet and contribute to the global conversation on how it’s managed, developed and used.
We believe that a range of voices should be heard when driving the future development of the internet – that’s why we’re active in the domain, internet governance and technical communities, including ICANN, Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), CENTR, UK IGF and Technical Community Coalition for Multistakeholderism (TCCM).
-
Countering Online Harms
The Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) is a UK-based charity that works to make the internet a safer place by identifying and removing global online child sexual abuse material (CSAM).
We’ve been funding the IWF’s important work since 2018, allowing the charity to develop innovations such as ‘clustering’ technology – enabling CSAM to be identified and taken down 112% faster than before.
-
Raising awareness of online safety
The UK Safer Internet Centre (UKSIC) is a unique partnership between three charities: the Internet Watch Foundation (IWF), Childnet and South West Grid for Learning (SWGfL).
Each year, the UKSIC hosts Safer Internet Day – the UK’s biggest celebration of online safety. We’re proud to be a long-standing supporter.
-
Reducing harm on .UK
Running one of the largest country code registries is a great responsibility and we have a duty to ensure .UK remains trusted and free from harm.
To make this happen, we work with law enforcement agencies and develop new technologies to tackle abuse in our namespace.
Our Flagship Projects
MIcro:bit – The Next Gen
We’re proud to be part of the BBC micro:bit – the next gen campaign with BBC Education and the Micro:bit Educational Foundation.
Our funding has meant that over 600,000 micro:bits have been delivered to UK primary schools. That’s 30 free devices per school, delivered alongside free education resources and teacher training to enhance the curriculum.

Click START
We partnered with the Institute of Coding (IoC) to launch Click Start, an ambitious multi-million pound programme that provides access to professional digital skills training and additional support to individuals from underrepresented backgrounds.
Click Start offers courses across the UK, both in-person and online, making learning accessible to everyone, no matter their location or personal circumstances.

National Databank
We’re longstanding partners of Good Things Foundation, the UK’s leading digital inclusion charity that aims to help everyone become digitally equal, able and safe.
Our funding supports the National Databank, which operates much like a food bank but for mobile connectivity, as well as the National Device Bank which delivers new or refurbished devices to people experiencing digital exclusion.

Members’ GiveHub Programme
Every Nominet member can access our GiveHub initiative to support UK-based grassroots projects of their choice and make a real difference to their work. Our members can access up to £10,000 per financial year. So far, funds have been used to help community groups, donate tablets to schools and keep communities connected online.
